Welcome to Online Catalogue of Colombo Public Library
The Colombo Public Library (CPL) is the largest public library in Sri Lanka established in 1925 and providing services to both local and foreign readers. The library has a collection of nearly 1,000,000 books, 57 newspapers & 111 periodical titles in all 3 languages, Sinhala, Tamil & English. It expands its services through 11 branches, 2 Mobile Service units to public and Book Box Projects to under privileged children in underserved settlements. Library has 5 departments, 8 service providing points to serve the users.
In 2014, Automation of the Colombo Public Library was initiated with the financial assistance of the Colombo Municipal Council to uplift the efficiency of the services rendered by the library. Technical consultancy services were provided by the Open University of Sri Lanka. It was the first public library in Sri Lanka to be fully automated.
The Digital Libraries Project was implemented in 2017 at Colombo Public library by the Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) in collaboration with National Library and Documentation Services Board to strengthen the library automation and to introduce modern infrastructure which is in demand to improve the quality and efficiency of the library system in the country.
Presently the library is fully equipped with modern electronic devices to provide digital library services to the public. Users can easily search, find, locate and hold required books through this Online Public Access Catalog. The focal point of the e-Public Library Automation Project of the Ministry of Internal and Home Affairs and Provincial Councils and Local Government and the Open University of Sri Lanka is also been established in the Colombo Public Library.
